Would You Like to Support Delta Science?

We Need Your Help!

If you have reached this page, then you likely know of the tremendous positive impact the Delta Science Club has made on the educational community in our short time of existence.  One of our policies is to share our knowledge to all interested members of the community, not just Delta students.  Our star parties and astronomical events have drawn people from all backgrounds, ages, professions, locations, and science savvy levels.  Our Copenhagen fossil digs have also spurred the interest of many students and locals.  Delta is often a resource for local media outlets for accurate scientific information, especially in the earth and natural sciences.

Educating students is our number one objective.  We want the highest quality education and educational experiences possible for our students.  Obtaining that higher standard, however, requires additional financial assistance - far more than local fundraisers can support.  For example, geology excavations, tornado research/chasing and local storm assessment, professional astronomy trips require extensive amounts of funding.  We want students to be able to attend and participate in regional and national science conventions in their areas of interest.

What do we require?

1.  Passenger vans.  Our two small school vans can carry only six students and are not always available for use.  We need vans that can carry a higher volume of students - such as 15 passenger vans.  These vans would allow us to travel to more distant locations for science events.  It would also end any restrictions on usage since the school's vans are often used by other school personnel.  At present, many students are forced to follow behind in a caravan.  This method is not only undesirable, but can be dangerous.

2.  A small enclosed trailer for transporting equipment.  Our growing number of telescopes takes up tremendous amounts of space.  It would also be used for transporting luggage and other equipment to allow more space for students in the vans.

3.  Funding is needed for all trips.  Some of our proposed trips include:
    a.  Fossil digs/studies in west Texas, the Bad Lands of the Dakotas, and other geological locations such as volcanoes.
    b.  Storm chase studies in Tornado Alley, hurricane intercept along the gulf coast, and local storm damage assessment.
    c.  Astronomy star parties in the desert southwest:  west Texas, Arizona.
    d.  Pollution studies along various waterways of Arkansas and Louisiana.
    e.  Life science trips to local medical centers.
    f.  Professional science conferences and seminars such as the National Science Teachers Conference (students can attend), National Severe Weather Conference, National Hurricane Conference, and others.  Attending conferences gives students a fantastic opportunity to see what other institutions have to offer in the way of science as well as allowing our students to share their experiences with other institutions.

4.  Provide equipment for the presentation of science materials to students at local and regional schools.  The frequency of requests for school presentations continues to increase.  We want to be able to provide hands-on activities for students, not "Death by PowerPoint!"  Remember those instructors who caused you to fight sleep on a daily basis during class?  Delta instructors do not want to be remembered as one of those instructors.  Our educational community desperately needs an influx of new and stimulating ideas for our younger students.  Delta can provide that opportunity.

What can we do for you?

You as a corporate sponsor would certainly want to know what you would get as a return on your investment.  If you are a science oriented business, we would discuss the possibility of a partnership training potential employees to your requirements while continuing to meet state higher-education standards.  If you are not a science oriented business, we would offer advertisement of your business in the form of banners and web page endorsements.
