Fossil digging usually brings up visions of large dinosaur bones in the badlands of the northern plains of the U.S., not the terrain of Louisiana.  However, a few isolated areas of prime fossil sites do exist with some rather unique finds.  Louisiana Delta Community College's Tiffany Green usually teams up with the University of Louisiana Monroe's Dr. Gary Stringer, who is one of the area's leading experts on north Louisiana's marine fossils.  In fact, Dr. Stringer recently discovered a new genus and species of sting ray, Eoplinthicus yazooenisis at the Copenhagen, Louisiana site which dates back some 36 million years.

Three to four times a year, teams of college professors, high school teachers, college and high school students embark upon a favored dig site to retrieve marine fossils.  Other sites include Jackson, Mississippi, and Duty Ferry, Louisiana.  Photos of each new dig will be posted here.  Click on the links below to see pics and a brief description of each dig.
